peep sight for a 111
« on: October 03, 2010, 10:21:00 AM »
i have a 111 that i bought used a few years ago. it's in like new condition. it has the factory open sights on it now. it also has the older style reciever with a round front and a flat back. has anyone put a peep sight on one of these? i looked at the williams web sight and they list a reciever sight for a 110 but i don't know if that is a round or flat top or how it mounts. something that uses the rear scope mounting holes would be nice.

Before Williams made the WGRS that fit the Marlin, I made one by elongating one of the holes with a needle file. I filled in the gap created with epoxy, and it worked great. I carried the rifle around almost every day I was out for four years in Allaska, and it stayed right where I put it.

The FP-110 should fit it, but I can't give any advise on the round vs flat receiver question.

Call Williams at 1-800-530-9028 and they should be able to answer your question.

thanks, i thought about calling, i thought i'd try here first to see if anyone has tried it and if they liked it, but it doesn't seam like a very popular way to go. it thought it would be neat to try vs a scope.

We always tend to think of our bolt guns with scopes. I had a Mossberg 308 once that I took a file to and trimmed it down to a nice skinny lightweight. I put a reciever in it and it was a real joy to carry, as nice as a small shotgun. Makes a real difference carrying a gun that you can wrap your hand around the balance. I made some real long shots with that rifle, but that was in bright sunny open country. When I am in the woods on maybe cloudy days when the light is poor is when I want a scope. Exactly opposite from what most people think I guess.
