elm borer for bait?

was splitting some dead white elm, found several 1-1.5 inch long borers, they look similar to a maggot with legs,, anyone ever try ice fishing these , we have gills crappie etc, no toothed fisheys locally ?? thanks

thanks for the reply.. was mistaken .no legs .just squished a bit.. need to pack my glasses more often.. going to try thurs. will inform w/ results..

While splitting some elm today, I also found large green 2 1/2" grubs inside. My son confirmed they were green. Never seen them so big or that color. May be the time of year, I don't know. Only posted here because I was directed here by searching for these Elm Grubs (tree borers). Haven't found anything yet to confirm just what they are.

Okay; Took my camera out to the wood pile and found one of these critters.
This is what I think this big boy is.....
This is a 'Tree Carpenterworm'. It attacks stressed hardwood trees, Oak, Elm, Cottonwood, etc. They go thru many pupa stages in a 2 to 3 year period, beginning their cycle just under the tree bark. They emerge several times during these stages. The final stages, they bore into the heartwood.
