Dismal start.

Full moon last night.

Farm is now  BMA with internal roads closed.

Saw one deer, few tracks and no activity on the rubs.

No coyote sign, some gopher and no badger sign.

Bleak, very bleak.

Had 6 does come by and wave at 20 yards, guess they knew they were off the season chart now.  A while later, saw 3 nice bucks across the property at about 250 yards.  I have had problems getting a pattern on them, and where they were crossing the fence line from the adjoining property.

I got their number now.

They were running together, so the rut is not yet into play.

Went out first time in a while sense I couldn't last 4 years because of the army thing. Got a doe and remembered why I missed it so much.

My hunting partner is dealing with a broken hip so we don't walk as far as we used to. A couple of hundred yards from the truck is about it. Lots of sitting and waiting. Antelope didn't turn out to good, still working on deer. I don't think we are up to elk this season.

I'm up for elk hunting, but no partners to go with.  Makes hunting or wanting to hunt for elk a drag.

I am stuck in Arizona and wont make it back for hunting season.  My father had two strokes, a brain hemorrhage, a craniotomy, and a lots of other serious medical complications.  Either I help my mother taking care of my pa for a while or my pa goes to a convalescent home.  My pa is getting better and my extra time is spent testing bullets.

Here is a pic of my Pa doing some shooting.  His therapist cant believe he is able to shoot.

Good luck with all ya guys lucky enough to get out and hunt.

sourdough, we all may live forever and never know the joy that your pa has had with you. would trade all the year I have left hunting to go shooting with the grandfather, sense dad doesn't like guns, grandpa is the one one that taught me anything. But I'll bet you made pa's day and that's all that matters

Thanks for your kind words Prospector.  My pa and I do appreciate the time together when we get to go out and shoot.

Those big stinky animals in Montana will just have to wait until next year.    :)  I butcher my own animals, so it's nice not spending all day and night two or three times in November with me and the abode all covered in blood.  Not to mention the packing out.  Whew!!!
