Hi!
Santa was kind to me, and put a Lyman GPR .50 cal kit under my tree! Hee, Hee!!!
With my sandpapers, emery cloth and Dremel in hand, I think I just about have the inletting finished- except when I assemble the barrel to the tang in the stock, the tang lifts up in the back a bit (
).
After I get the castings for the butt plate, end cap and trigger guard polished up, I figure that I'll blue it instead of browning it. I'm not that traditional, and I want to put a Lyman 57GPR sight on the back of it - the blue (hopefully) will match the sight and the wedge pins. Also, the end cap is pinned on, and I don't want to disturb the installation to remove it for browning (i.e. heating the endcap to 200+ deg. F. with a torch or oven) or accidentally set the stock on fire with a torch.
My question is, is there a better blueing method/product than what Birchwood/Casey provides? What would you suggest?
So far, this is a blast!
Thanks,
Matt
