If you haven;t noticed, the calendar poll is open.  Vote for your favorite 12,

Last year we voted for 13.  One for the cover?  Or are you going to do the collage?

Yes, every picture submitted will be on the calendar.  The top 12 will appear on the months and the rest will be the collage.

Double D.,   I don't see a running tabulation of the voting results.  Is that feature gone this year or am I not smart enough to find it?

Results will only be visible when the poll closes.

Good idea - vote as you think, uninfluenced by everyone else's vote.  ;)

This is going to take some time.  There's a lot of good submissions!

I never thought of it that way, but you guys are right, I have heard that some people want to vote for the winner, no matter what his or her politics is.  I agree, it's better this way!  Just pick the ones you like with no outside influences.

It's not just that some people want to vote for the winner, but if a certain option is already guaranteed a win, I've voted for other options that I think need more votes (another reason why is illustrated in the last part of this thread).  Hiding the running tally also means there's no advantage to waiting to see what the voting trends are, and it will give a better indication of the actual sentiments of the voting majority.

Of course, this could put a couple of pictures at a disadvantage, if there are some similar images (such as the 2 submitted by MikeR C), as some people may want to only vote for one, and may have chosen one over the other based on voting trends, but instead they may end up scavinging each other's votes.  That's the main reason behind having only 1 of any given cannon submitted.  Mike's submissions don't appear to violate this requirement, but again, are too similar to each other IMO to garner a vote for each, given the rest of the options.

Hmm, I like to see the vote on each photo so I will know how many of you voted wrong. Naturally the ones I vote for are the only right ones to vote for.  ;D

I understand that sentiment too! ;D  Of course, I doubt you'd ever vote any different from me, since I'm always right, too! ;)

BTW, I did it, though it wasn't easy.  I went back and forth for a little while on a couple of them, but I won't say which. :-X

(such as the 2 submitted by MikeR C),

But for the record they are two different guns, as are a couple of others submitted.

Indeed they are different, and I said as much in that same post.  It was just an example of similar looking guns with similar pictures.  I was in no way trying to say I took issue with his submissions - just making the point.

There are other pictures submitted that were obviously shot in similar locations, which similarly can have a vote scavinging effect.  For that matter, with so many nice pictures to choose from, multiple submissions from the same person may have an effect.  Both of these were considerations for me.

It's no secret that I'm not so fond of cannons as you guys are and in fact own a grand total of one a Brooks fire cracker cannon they sent me. That's not to say that if I could find the type I like at a price I felt reasonable I might not buy more.

If it won't fit on the shelf of the book cases in the living room then it's not coming home with me as I have no interest in shooting them.

I have a particular fondness for one type barrel and one type carriage and when it strays beyond those two characteristics it's hard for me to vote for it. As a result I seldom vote for the full twelve and this time voted only for eight as that's all that met one or both criteria I look for. As a for instance no mortar would ever get a vote from me.

Hey if we all liked the same thing we'd all be driving black model T's.

I noticed that after you vote you get to see the results. Most if not all of the eight I voted for seem to be in the top twelve at the moment.

Look on the SSK banner at the top of the Forums Index page. It is precisely what I like in both barrel and carriage. I think of it as a civil war piece tho I have no clue how accurate I am in that.

I've seen lots of relatively low cost book case size versions of it and my best friend Billy Doss (deceased) had two of them of different sizes. I really should talk to his step son to see if he'd let me buy those owned by my friend.

None of the submissions this time fully matched what I like but some have barrels close enough and a few have similar carriages. In the past we've had some submissions that were really close to my idea of what a cannon should look like.

I think this will show the banner:

Generally speaking, that's a field carriage.

I think the reason you are able to see the votes after submitting yours has something to do with this:

I can't see the tally.  I just have the check boxes removed.

I think it was Tim's remark about somebody's picture would look good on a Calendar so we set up the first calendar poll for 2008.  You can see the old calendar in the GBO E store.  http://www.cafepress.com/gbollc/2319361

Every year has been a pain in the back side. Every year I have threatened to never do another.

In order to deal with some of the issues making the poll and the calendar, and sadly with some folks try to take advantage I have had make a rule to address the problem.

This year I sat down aand put the poll together in about a hour---NO PROBLEMS!

I also now have access to the GBO Estore and I am able to put the calendar together my self.  I think we have the kinks worked out finally/

And I am already thinking about putting together next year calendar.

Nice that it's going together more smoothly this year.  Hopefully you'll still feel that way after the first one is printed. ;D
