Multi Tasking On The Trapline

 Usuallythe only time I trap one species at a time,is during spring beaver season.When open water trapping,I will set for any animal that wants to get its feet wet--though I am usually keying in on rats or beaver.
 Do you guys hit everything at once? or try to stay--wet or dry?

Both,  opportunities present themselves  at differant places on water and land line, so  trap them both same time...

some times i might take a week or ten days and hit the high and dry mountains for k-9's and trying to snag a cat, but most of the time i got wet and dry traps set.

Now days I usually trap coon dry for a week or two as coon is the first thing open to trap. Then I go in the water for rats when the river opens. Kind of depends on how my vactions line up with what is open some years. When I'm on the river if I see a good coon spot or mink spot I usually set it. When I do set dryland for coyotes I usually set the easy coon, mink, fox spot, if I drive right by it. That way I can afford to trap the worthless coyotes.

Hey Mac  what about the skunks???  Skunks all over this year and  big  ones too  ,  seen alot of almost black ones , just the ones the industry doesnt want.....LOL

I trap dry the first part of the season. Acorns are dropping everywhere and the coon are up on the ridges getting their fill. I try to set for coon and fox at these locations than move down to the bottoms when the coon are back to the creeks and river bottoms. Of course I set where the sign is and never say never of anything when it comes to trapping. If there is a lot of sign in the bottoms than thats where I start. Wet or dry doen't matter to me as long as I'm out setting steel.

Your not the first person to tell me we might have some skunks again.
I never set just to catch a skunk unless a land owner ask. I also don't get to upset and more about catching skunks though. But I do perfer them big fat, essance filled, nice double stripers the hat people want.

got $7 average on green skunks last year-


have to stay either dry or water- just way too confusing to try for both

canines and dryland coon for 5 weeks, then 3 months in water.

8 days until I'll be setting first coyote traps.

I have trapped dryland,coyotes, and check water sets for mink on the same in.I can also drive,eat a sandwich and write in my trapline log at the same time.Now that's multi tasking!

Yotero, those ditches and deep ruts will get you someday....LOL....you got to realize ol Gappa is an old man, fogey, ect so he has to take his time..... ... huh  what did you say....!!!!!!!!!!!
