Browning 1886 Short Carbine
« on: July 25, 2010, 04:51:50 PM »
Is anyone still making the Browning 1886 carbine? Are they still
relatively plentiful on the used market? From all accounts that is
a great rifle with high accuracy potential, and can stand up under
the hottest 45-70 loads such as those from Buffalo Bore and Garrett.

Thanks,
Rifle Man

Gallery of Guns is selling Miroku 1886s but very pricey.

Winchester Repeating Arms is selling a Miroku 1886 as well.

These guns have rebounding hammers and tang safeties.

Hi Rifle man, I have a Browning 1886 carbine. VERY accurate well made rifle NO tang safety. At 50 yards' it will print a one hole 3 shot clover leaf about every time. Fit & finish is great. I like the looks better than the Winchester repo's... only bad thing is it's says "Made in Japan" on the barrel.

I had one that was unfired.  I traded it for a week of bow building lessons.  Bad trade!

I have an early Browning 1886 Saddle Ring Carbine 45-70 Cal.  This gun was a salesmans sample gun with a special Ser. Number.  Not long after I bought it I dropped it on a parking lot. Well after all the little gravel dinks in the wood and metal, it became a shooter. That was a good accident in the end.  This is an outstanding rifle to shoot.  This one does not have the funky saftey on the tang.
