12v rv wiring
« on: November 08, 2010, 04:26:34 PM »
I just got an older slide in camper. It has a single small 12v wire that powers two 12v lights. I want to add an inverter, a few 12v power outlets and maybe a few more lights. The inverter part is easy but Im not exactly sure how I should wire the 12v outlets and lights, will I need a fusebox/distrubution block? Are there any sites anyone knows of that can help me out? I tried google but didnt get the results I needed. Thanks

Just run a fused wire from the hot side of the batt, to a switch, then to one wire on the lights.  Hook a grounded wire to the second wire on all the lights.  Generally blk is hot, and white is ground.

  I hope this helps,

If the light has only one wire, then the light socket must be grounded to make the light work.

Actually, in automotive ANY color can be hot, but almost always, white is ground.
