Week two
« on: November 02, 2010, 06:44:29 AM »
Everybody is kinda quiet.  Must all be out hunting.   :-\

I posted bits in other forums, but need to touch base here at home!   ;D

Well, week two is over and another disappointing one it was.  I didn't see the first deer!   :(  I haven't seen a season like this in years.  Had 198 pictures on my trail cam for the week and they were all at night.  All does and fawns except one new (little) 6 pt. I hadn't seen before.  I wonder if the other bucks I've seen have been killed.   :-\  I hope not, I really wanted that cowhorn spike!  But I tell ya, we overloaded with them dang Florida hunters around here!   >:(  No offense there Gregg...  ;D

Still no indication the rut has taken off.   ???

Oh well, I did kill a coyote to make up for the one I missed.  A big dog.  He came right at my stand and got to around 8 yards before he stopped and started acting hinkie.  Then he turned around and took off back the way he came at a fast trot but stopped when I squeeked a few times with my mouth.  Only his chest was visable between 2 trees but I put a bullet into it from my M94 30/30 at about 24 yards.  It hammered him!   :D

The wx and moon look right for this weekend so I'm hopeing for good things.

And how's your season going?

Wassa' matter?  Ain't ya'll got no spotlights there?  It worked good for a couple guys near here that got 7 deer in one night before they caught them and threw them in jail and impounded their vehicle and guns......oh...never mind.

Hope the rut kicks in soon.  I've got a couple scrapes going, but I've only seen a couple bucks in daylight hours.  At my daughter's place, I wait until about a half hour before dark and call my daughter up to drive the perimeter of the cut area in the truck.  So far, every time about a half dozen or more deer get up and move away from bedding.  The only problem is, if I'm on the east they move west...if I move to the other stand on the west, they go east....quite a puzzler.  Now if I had two daughters and two trucks......... ???

Seen plenty of signs but no deer. All the deer I'm seeing is around 8:00 to 10:00pm beside the road when I driving. Every year I can count several shots while I am on the stand. This year I heard one shot all season. I think things are tough on everybody this year.

I did get to see a covey of 9 quail feed along the trail leading into my stand. At least that was interesting to watch.
