NEF Pardner pump shotgun?
« on: February 13, 2004, 06:26:06 PM »
My local retailer has in their advertisement flier, what seems to be a Remington clone of the 870 express.  It is called the Pardner, made by NEF (New England Firearms) ex. Harrington and Richardson.  The price is $179.00 new, has walnut stock wood, and a real padded buttstock, not the solid hockey puck of the Rem. and is quite abit cheaper than the Rem. 870 Express.

I am looking at a low cost, but rock solid, second 12 gauge pump, and I shot well with my old Rem. 870 express, but did not like the workmanship on it, sold it.  Since the Pardner has more features at a lower cost, I wonder if they did something to keep it that cheap, like inferior materials?

I have read that there is use of plastic on the Mossberg Maverick (budget Model 500 clone)  "action bars cast into plastic fore end" part of the action to keep the cost so low on those, can you use plastic on the internal parts of an 870 type?

Thanks.

They imported that bad boy from China...That's how they can beat the price of most guns that are actually made in America.  Orinco makes them I believe.  Now I am not saying that it is a sub-par gun because it is made in China.  I just won't be buying one.  To each his own...If you want one then buy it.

WNT Whitetailer:

Thanks for your reply, I should have looked at an example to see where it was made.  I have previously owned 5 Chinese made guns, and with the exception of the SKS semi-auto having good steel (the bolt body was abit soft though), they were real junky, and parts were of inferior steel.  I got rid of them all.

I have heard other complaints from people on several Chinese guns having poor quality!  And I do recall reading a gun magazine article that The Chinese were making a copy of the Rem. 870 Express awhile back, so that must be it.
