I have two USH's. One 12 and one 20, both wear Leupold 1x4x20 VX II shotgun scopes. They have a bold duplex reticule and work perfectly for me.
In the 12 I am lucky enough to be able to site the Rem Ultra Cor Lokts for 1 1/2 or so high and have the Buck Hammer be dead on at the same 100 yard distance. What this does for me is lets me carry two different loads that will allow me to accurately kill deer from muzzle to about 200 yards. This gun shoots one hole groups at 100 with the hammers and nearly touching with the ultras.

In my 20, I shoot the Hornady slugs, they have been most accurate so far. Very good but not quite as accurate as the 12.

Mounting the scope as close to the bore as possible is really most beneficial for long ranges. Ergonomically it allows for proper stance and cheek weld to the stock. As you can see the the center pic, lo rings ARE usable with a handi friendly scope. Burris ZEE, Leupold PRW and Warne Maximums all work in lo with proper scopes.
