I don't have a 30-30, but all of my factory T/C centerfire caliber barrels are so far to the lands that a normal weight bullet falls out of the case before it reaches the rifling.  That is why I don't worry about seating depth that much.  I just seat at least bullet diameter deep into the case mouth and call it good.

If others have similar experience, maybe that is why they have not chimed in with any numbers for you.

I don't have a 30-30 barrel but T/C has made different throats over the years on their barrels. They tend to be loooooog. I tend to like custom made barrels where you can either state the length throat or send them a dummy round with the bullet you intend to use and they cut the throat to that length. I have a 14" 30-30AI caliber SS Shilen made by Match Grade Machines (MGM) that is outstandingly accurate. I shoot the 125 gr Nosler ballistic tip at 2670 fps for whitetail deer and it hammers them.

theduke,

That seems much too long for that cartridge...

Mine is 2.294" from where the cartridge contacts the bolt/breech face to where it contacts the bore, not the rifling...

That length allows the part of the bullet that is the same diameter of the bore (not the rifling depth) to touch the bore with a Hornady 130 SP seated...

That indicates your length from bolt/breech face to rifling, actually bore diameter, is 0.986" longer than my chamber in my T/C 30-30 Winchester...

Thompson is noted for their lousy chambers being much to long to save careless reloaders from themselves, or that is what I think.  But your chamber would be insanely over sized, in length...

Just my thoughts...

Good-luck...BCB
