i tested my kahr today.. opps
« on: August 04, 2010, 08:32:02 AM »
i had my hands full and dropped my cw40.. thank god it was unloaded !
it tumbled down 23 wood steps and landed on a carpeted covered cement pad
not a scratch, not a mark. it looks just as good as 'before' the test i subjected it too  ;D
i function checked it and everything looks and seems fine, i will shoot it to be sure, but it seems to be one tough sob of a handgun
i wont go into the details of what i was saying as it tumbled  :o

Well Scibaer I guess in the situation whatever expletives you used during this " stressful moment", U.S. Marshall Givens would probably say they were" Justified"!

well to be honest, my cw didnt hit every step on the way down, it bounced and missed some of 'em  ::)
it was stressful, and i sure didnt feel very well when i went down to pick it up.. expletives were very 'justified' in my mind

Scibaer, if you knew how many times I have lost a weapon in a fight, during SWAT training exercises, and so on in a 20 year career, it would make me look very bad. I have a friend that was testing a new SWAT holster for a BIG company. It was a prototype, and guess what. He was running from a SWAT van to a school bus, and the super-duper-gotta-have it prototype holster, knocked the 1911 off safety, and pulled the trigger. The safety strap was across the grip safety ::). Shot went into his thigh, and exited his calf.
Accidents happen, folks just don't talk about it in public. 99% of the time no one gets hurt, but there's that 1%. Carry long enough, and you'll drop one. No one is 100% all the time.

yeah i hear ya Dee. i spend 8 years in the army, and had my share of blunders. once i mis-fired a TOW rocket into the ground, 15 feet in front of the Humvee i was riding on.. not the way to do things  ::). i am a bit disappointed in myself for dropping my  cw40, but im a fan of kahrs and wanted to say that they can take some level of abuse, to the guys who are shy of getting one.  ;)
my screw up did teach me a few simple lessons though, i have been carrying concealed for just over 5 years now and 'knock on wood' this was my first ( and i hope last ) such blunder.  :-\

Kahrs are good little pistols. I had one in 9mm, and other than being heavy, it was a good pocket gun. I carry a 2" Smith 60 now, and haven't dropped one in years.

how'd you not run over the tow afterwards?  the way I picture it it's one big upside down spike in the ground in front of the humvee and you're running over it...

just curious

squib,
we pulled out of our improvised hiding position to fire on a fortified  enemy vehicle. i had the tow system warm and ready to go. in the heat of the action, i flipped up the safety cover on the firing trigger so as soon as the humvee came to a rest i could set the cross hairs in the day sight and fire. honestly the enemy vehicle was not capable of reaching us with small arms anyhow, but in ciaos and  rush of things, well you know how that can go. anyhow when the driver cleared the cover, giving me some clear  back blast area, he hit the brakes. the humvee nosedived a bit and i gripped the hand knobs on the tow's transversing unit and i guess some muscle memory or instinct took over and i hit the launch button. the rocket hit the ground, barely clearing the hood and brush guard. it hit the soft sand and buried itself about 1 1/2 into the ground, engine whistling away and pouring exhaust and smoke all over us.. it stunned all of us. that was the longest 15 seconds in my life, then the engine died and McNeal the driver backed up and cranked the wheel , i was yelling for him to go and he did, another humvee in the squad took care of business. to this day i dont remember flipping up the handle cutting the guide wires, we must have dragged them until the spool ran dry.
not the way to do things  ::)

my big boot mistake was falling asleep during a training op... and slumping over onto the company commander and snoring into his face.  him and the company gunny were baby-talking me back into coherence.  I caught a lot of crap for that one  :P

Well, in my case, the 8th Marines was a long time ago...but I'll guarantee that I never had a Company Commander or a Gunny baby talk me awake !

no ".. wake up butter-cup.." moments for you?  that was priceless.  I was a mouthy boot and got put on lots of extra details and working parties, so I was pretty tired.  me being barely coherent with maybe twelve hours sleep in three days in the field was totally understandable, but actually passing out, and slumping over onto the company commander and snoring in his face wasn't.  I didn't just drop my head and "bod for ****", I was actually OUT, and had to be propped up and shaken.

no, our company gunny rarely if at all cussed, he had stickers on his truck that said stuff like "jesus freak".  the c.o. just chuckled the whole time, he wasn't mad either.
