This one scares me....

Not the mortar, the guys shooting it.  Look at them standing over the tube pouring in the powder and then look at how they support that thing.  scarey!

Yes that looks like death waiting.That pipe looke like it's a piece of ductile water main,cant really tell,but if it is that stuff is like a castiron but a little tougher.But him welding that,that's bad news.
But it could be sced.180 pipe,It could be fun :lol:

Now if they have a solid chamber in which they place the powder and set the ball on top, no problem.  The pipe then does nothing to contain the explosion, just align the ball.

You can see the welded seam of the pipe in one picture.  the really scary thing is how they support the tube.  If that thing fellover while the thing was going off...scarey!

The article mentions that the can mortar he shoots tends to blow the can off the cement core... wonder how much powder he is using?  No I don't want  to know.

On the other hand, they aren't making cans the way they used to.

On my beer-can calliber mortars using moderate charges the new aluminum cans often open up like a daisy 20 to 30 feet out of the tube.

Either way we have a candidate for a future failure-analysis exercise.
