Getting a bunch of captured Illegals on a chain gang and making them clean up the trash on the border would be a shovel ready job, ok.......so no wages, I still like the idea,

I think a a good shovel ready job would be setting mines on the border.
No unsightly fences.
No need for border patrols
No need for servilence cameras
We will automacticaly be notified when an illegal crosses the border---BOOM  !!!

Landmines violate a number of international treaties.  Main reason is that they tend to kill innocents long after their intended purpose (ie, border shifts, policies change, etc).

land mines were never meant to be placed and then forgotten into perpetuity.  that is just a feel good liberal excuse for prohibiting them.

if / when the "border shifts" or "policies change" they can be easily removed.

in the meantime, there is no such thing as innocently sneaking across the border.

There's theory, and then there's practice. This isn't a case of "feel good" excuses.  Regardless of what they were "meant" for, landmines are very frequently forgotten once placed, and forgotten landmines still kill many people around the world every year.  International treaties ban the the creation of minefields, and for very good reason.

Don't need a shovel to protect the border. We just need to move the border south to the Panama canal and shove all the criminal and politico trash south of it.
Then our southern border would be easily defended, after all that's pretty much how we built this country in the first place.

MGMorden,

You say the placement of landmines violates international treaties.  Foreign nationals (ie Mexicans) armed with automatic weapons crossing our border constitutes an act of war under international law, and I am certain violates any number of treaties; and by the way, those persons would not be protected under the Geneva Convention because they are not recognized enemy combatants.   On that basis, placement of landmines at the national border is legal.   Furthermore,  if we placed the mines on OUR side of the border, there is absolutely nothing Mexico can say about it.

I believe that is what is known as slavery. Are we going to go back to when conquering countries turned the defeated countries population into slaves?
