GUN TREATY! A LETTER FROM MY US SENATOR.
« on: October 20, 2010, 06:24:38 PM »

(FIRE THE S.O.B.)

Dear Mr. Newman:

Thank you for contacting me regarding your concerns with the Inter-American Convention Against the Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives, and Other Related Materials (CIFTA).  I appreciate hearing from you.

CIFTA was adopted by the Organization of the American States in 1997 to prevent and stop the illegal traffic of firearms at the international level and entered into force on July 1, 1998.  The treaty established that the parties must establish criminal offences under their domestic law against illicit manufacturing and trafficking if they had not already done so.  Treaties must be agreed to in the Senate before they are ratified.  President Obama has stated he will seek the ratification of CIFTA but has not yet submitted the treaty to the Foreign Relations Committee.

I agree that the right of law abiding Americans to own a gun should be protected.  However, laws prohibiting felons and other potentially dangerous individuals from owning guns are reasonable and effective ways to reduce violent crime in our communities.  In the past, the Senate has considered a variety of gun safety measures.  I carefully evaluate each of these proposals, and I only support gun control legislation that corresponds to two important principles.  First, I do not believe we should deprive law abiding gun owners, particularly hunters and target shooters, of their Second Amendment rights.  Second, I only support proposals that I believe will unquestionably make our communities safer.

Please be assured that I will keep your views in mind should I have the opportunity to vote on this treaty.  Again, thank you for contacting me.

                                                                           Sincerely,

                                                                           Herb Kohl
                                                                           United States Senator

Vote them all out, EVERY election!

What law is there that the criminal wont violate to keep from getting a gun, none of the laws will stop a criminal from getting a gun, none of the laws will stop them, all the laws are AGAINST the average law abiting citizen.   Jim

Aren't there already laws that prohibit felons and such from having guns? Enforcing the laws we already have would go a long way toward reducing crime. ::)

Of course they are. It's not the criminal the dems and libs want to control, it's US, the law abiding armed American citizen. POWDERMAN.  >:( >:(

What a Bozo senator!   He only supports the 2nd amendment rights of hunters and target shooters????   Red flag right there.   the 2nd amendment didn't have anything to do with hunting and target shooting.    I was and is foremost an amendment to allow the populace to keep and bear arms for self defense and preservation against anyone or anything that may try to deprive them of their God given rights.
Is this guys seat in play come November?

No,  Feingold comes due in December. Both he and Kohl vote in lock-step with the democraps like mindless little twits.   Go to Kohl's website and tell him what you think if you vote in Wisconsin.

Kohl is just another poor boy that feels the average Americans pain.
He and his brother became heir to a family-owned chain that included 50 grocery stores and several department stores, pharmacies, and liquor stores.
In 1985, Kohl purchased the Milwaukee Bucks from Jim Fitzgerald

With an estimated net worth in 2005 of $279 million, he is one of the wealthiest U.S. Senators.

Kohl is (strongly) pro-choice but opposes the death penalty. (Go figure) He is highly in favor of affirmative action and supports setting aside funds for women and minorities. In 2005 he secured a victory for one of his main causes: requiring handguns to be sold with child safety locks. The amendment was attached to the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, with every Democrat and (many) Republicans voting in favor of the amendment. Earlier in his career, he helped push the Gun-Free Schools Act which the U.S. Supreme Court overturned in 1995 and has submitted many amendments to that effect. He is a strong supporter of public education and rejected school vouchers.
He was among the 98 U.S. Senators who voted for the PATRIOT Act. That alone makes him a traitor in my book!
