Been invited to lunch with the Governor
« on: October 13, 2010, 09:57:11 AM »
A group of us get togeather in the back dinning room at Denny's every Wednesday for lunch.  We discuss hunting and fishing issues.  Many of the large business owners in Fairbanks are members of the group.  Several are retired State Biologist from Fish and Game.  A couple are retired State Legislatures.  Joe Miller has lunch with us everytime he is in town.  Several State Legislators stop by as well when they are in town. This group has had some pull in the past with the Governor.  So we recieved an invite to have lunch with him, but he feels Denny's is just a bit too public.  I have several questions I intend to ask about The States Rights Issues we have been experiencing lately here in Alaska between the State and the Federal Government.  Will let you know how it goes.  Rog

PS.  I've invited a couple of conservative friends along who really want to give him a piece of their mind.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Food was horriable.  Did talk to the Governor about the peoblems with the Nat Park Service Rangers.  He is having the Stte attorney General come to Fairbanks next wednesday to have lunch with us and discuss the problems and their solutions.

Sourdough,

Our prayers are with you from the Gunshine state.  Your state seems to have some pretty good judges that may be able to set some rulings for the rest of us.

Our problem is that we are tied to that sorry excuss of a Federal Court known as the 9th court down in California.  Anything done in Alaska will go there on appeal, and their liberal judges will go with the Park Service.  So we know it will end up at the US Suprme Court.

Sourdough:  Where did you end up eating lunch?  We don't get up to Fairbanks that often, so we don't want to go someplace with bad food.

FYI: If you travel south for any reason, the Mat-Su Family Restaurant on the Parks going into Wasilla has the best breakfast for the price available anywhere on Earth (and I've lived in 10 other states or countries for 6 months or more, a question in the ADN for the Governor candidates).  I have no financial or other connection with this place.  It's just a great family owned business that does well.

In Fairbanks, the Hilltop in Fox is great, with the Sourdough Cafe running a distant second.  We always stopped at Dahlmans in North Pole, but I hear they went out of business.
best regards,

That 9th District Court would make a good impact site for an asteriod.

Muskeg13:  Dahlman's did close.  The owners of the property kept increasing their rent to the point they could no longer aford it.

The luncion with the Governor (Parnell) was held at the John Deere dealership.  Hilltop is good, as is Sam's Sourdough Cafe on University.

Fairbanks is hurting for decent places to eat.  Most are overpriced for what you get.  Poor service and poor food is the norm.  Even our Fast Food choices suck.  Fairbanks does not have a Seafood restaurant period, and the ones that try and serve seafood don't do it well.  (That's what I like about Florida, good seafood is everywhere).  The restaurant owners in Fairbanks don't care, they know they have a captive clientele.  If you like Oriential the Pogoda in North Pole is good, with good service.  Steer Clear of the Elf's Den, their food and service are terriable.
