Remington 547

I got to play with one today.  I wish I hadn't seen it.  It was awesome.

Hmmmm now why does that not surprise me. I also wonder how awesome it would be if it had the name Ruger on it?  ;D

If I could find a Ruger 77/22 that was accurate and cheap I'd buy it.  I tried the CZ452 America and I didn't like it.  If the Remington 504 didn't have a bad rep for accuracy I buy one.  I've spent a barrel of money trying to find a good .22 and so far I've come up empty handed.

Yeah, I know, posting tiny groups for the sake of conversation don't really impress me either, but here is what I got for under 3 bills...

I know Swampy, sacrilege to Remington, but I own two Salvages, both rimfires, both very accurate.  The MkII here is sub 1/4" at 25yds and sub 1/2" at 50yds all day long as long as you feed it ammo it likes (which will never be $10+ match stuff).

I'm only interested in classic walnut stocked sporters.  I want something that matches my hunting rifles.

Well I cannot see Swampman paying the money but these vintage sportign rifles will fitt he bill:-

Semi heavy barrel

Nice stock design

With an old Weaver K3W fitted, the rifle below is the earlier model Sportsman Five. The Supersport five#s receiver is also D&T's for a receiver sight. It now wears

That's the first model Supersport Five which didn't have the dovetailer receiver.

It's had the barrel shortened to 16 1/2" and threaded 1/2" UNF to use a sound moderator for Bunny bashing using sub sonic ammunition.

And yes there are imprted into the US as a friend has just acquired a Sportsman Five even though they were never imported when in production. Why? ......................... I have no idea.

None of those would fit the bill.

What about a 40x then?  Although your wallet probably won't thank you afterwards.

The 547 is $1050.00 and I'd give that if they are accurate.

Find an old 580 series rifle,580 single shot,581 clip fed repeater,582 tube fed repeater. Guaranteed theyre more accurate than you can shoot em in the fields.

:D that puts Remington out of the picture then  ;)

Now seriously I have no idea what the 547 looks like. Until I saw this post had never heard of them but I can understand how a BSA would not suit Swampman after all the Sportsman Five has an adjustable trigger, detachable 5 shot magazine and is basically the same except of the magazien as the Century target rifle so obviously are not up to much in the accuracy department  ;)  ;D  :D. Of course the fact that they have not been made for about 35 years is a bit of a problem.

Swampy,

The 547 classic is fine looking 22. Perfect mate to a Remington 700 centerfire. I read a couple reviews and those guys claimed they were getting 1/2-3/4" groups @ 100yards. I like the way it looks.  ;D
