Went out with a few friends yesterday afternoon to a spot where we usually see a few yotes. We set up on the fence line covering a 230 x 120 yd field that is bordered on 2 sides by a stream and timber. One of the guys set out a rabbit caller that has a "rabbit" that moves on top. I hit up my locator caller for a few minuets and let off for a while to see if we could hear any near us. All this time this rabbit call is screaming away. I turned to click my howler back on and I see this scraggly 5 pointer coming right at me. Nice bodied 2yr old I was guessing, walking down the hill at me. About 10 feet before the fence he turns and jumps the fence in the next section to me. I'm sitting and watching him eat some of the bean stubble and the rabbit screaches again. He starts heading right to it. keeps walking up to the caller then stops 15 feet from it. Stares at it for a while and then walks off into the stream. Who woulda thought a rabbit distress call would capture the interest of a young buck??
All in all, no yotes and a real close look at some of the population of deer on the ground I hunt 2nd season, Not a total loss.
