I guess the 458 WM XP-100 would be out of the question then ? There is one out there . It was a shorter case , but still alot of boom. The shooter taped his hand and wrist to avoid injury.

i've shot plenty of animals well over a thousand pounds and many animals in the 500 to 1000lbs and if you ever maximized the loads for the 454 you'd see a whole hell of a lot less difference than you let do see.  i've had 475's and if i truly saw that much of a diff. i'd have kept it for sure.  it just does the same thing without the nice trajectory i can have with the 454 for smaller game.  i guess if i'd have wanted to see the difference i would have.  still have my smith 500 though.

400 grains out of a casull at 100 fps over a 420 grain out of a 475, sorry, not gonna see the diff.

Sure, all handgun ammo has it's place and it's purpose, it's followers.
IMHO the .454 Casull and his 50 years+ is STILL a marvelous round, packing quit big power in a small package and more specifically because it's hosted by an even more marvelous quality handgun, the F.A. Model 83. I can't deny that, but i'm no great writer, nor Clint Eastwood to change opinions...

You know, i cannot blame M.Cooper for his "WHOW" at first glance and his sober "unpractical" afterwards.
Didn't we do that with our first love :-)   ouch!

i'm kidding...
