Range Report 7x64, 38-55, 22 Hornet

Finally got up to the farm to shoot. So here goes.

7X64 shot minute of deer. Not a world beater but definately acceptable until I can find some new ammo to try. 2" groups at 100 with S&B 173 Soft Point Cut Edge ammo with a 3-9 Bushnell Trophy. Recoil/muzzle blast was surprising ( I have a 375 H&H so I'm no pansy) but manageable. Like the gun so I'm going to play around with it I think, but didnt knock the Rem 700 7x57 off as opening day shooter.

38-55 was awesome. Used the Ten-X 260 grain Lead Game Load. NO recoil. Leading of the barrel was AMAZING (I am not a reloader or cast bullet guy) Best group was 1.25". I am super pleased. Also with a 3-9 Bushnell Trophy. My cousin made fun of the gun before but he didn't after. This is my doe season special.

22 Hornet has been a pain in the butt til today. It's an Ilion gun and today was it's "last chance". As many have noted here, the cheap stuff shot best. I've tried both the Rem and Win factory stuff with little success. Well the Prvi Partizan shot great today. 1.25" groups at 100. Scope is a 4-12 Bausch & Lomb. I'm so happy that this gun came together as this is my "match" with my Taurus Raging Hornet which also likes the Partizan ammo.

That sounds like a pretty cool pair the 22 hornet rifle & revolver.

I shoot the Privi ammo out of my hornet too... it shoots great for half the price of remington ammo. ;) My hornet is a mix and match gun with a 357/44 mag frame and reworked wood stocks. It's funny but the mutt of a gun with cheap ammo will put bullets throught the same hole all day long... gotta love it. ;D

That 7x64 will never shoot! ::)  You had better pack it up and send it to me. ;D I have a scrap pile I can throw it on. LoL  :D

Just kidding, the Euro .270 is a good one to have. I shot a Mauser in Germany and absolutely loved it. Good luck, I'm sure it's just a matter of time until you find a load it really likes.

Yeah, one of the biggest tricks with the 7x64 has been finding ammo. Will def try some different thing when I can find them.

Love my Raging Hornet, the only complaint I have with it would be cases getting stuck in the cylinder but I know this has been a common problem with bottleneck cases in revolvers. Its fun though and will be double fun with the shooter Handi  ;D

Grafs still has Hornady and Norma in stock as well as the PRVI, their prices are sometimes a bit more, but $4.95 flat rate shipping is hard to beat.
