Looks like I will miss opening day (WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS)!!!
« on: October 28, 2010, 07:25:42 PM »
Here in my part of VA our early MZ season opens Saturday.
I have never missed an opening day of any deer season in my life since the first time I was able to go hunting alone.
Well this all came about and brought on by my own words.
I help coach LL baseball and have done so for years.
I did it on my oldest sons teams and the same on the youngest.
We finished what is called fall ball this past Tuesday night, at least I thought we did!
I made a statement to the boys that we could play one more game if they wanted to.
I told them that if they won they would then play Saturday for the championship.
Then I stuck my foot in my mouth.
I stated that I have never missed an opening day of deer season but if they won I would give it up and come coach them on Saturday morning.
Well, they won, 16 to 4.
Good for them!!!
I will gladly give it up for them.
Then I thought I could maybe get in a couple of hours Saturday evening after the game.
WRONG!
Tonight my son asked if he could have a party at our house on Saturday evening with about 30 to 50 friends from ball & school.
My boy also wrestles on his high school team.
Guess what ole dad is going to be doing on Saturday???
Oh well, we have clear through the first of January with open season and two a day on private land.
Plenty of time to hunt.
There's only so much time one can spend with their kids, and for me, that's every chance I get!!!

I hope we win!!! :)

Hope yer team wins.

Don't sweat no opener... there'll be plenty of deer later. I never kill anything opening day, despite trying.

M/L opener here in NC was 3 weeks ago... got an 8pt and a spike in the freezer so far. They're out there! This would be a great weekend to go - temps dropping after an obscene 85 degrees this week - but I'm taking my girls to Williamsburg, the deer have a reprieve until Monday evening...

good hunting

Well, I hope everyones day was as rewarding as mine was.
We played for the championship at 11:00 am today and after seven innings, we were the champions with a score of 15 to 7 against a team we had tied twice before but never beaten.
My son had two runs, three RBIs and was the winning pitcher after we started one of our other boys who had a terrible day on the mound, walking six batters and giving up five runs.
To me it was well worth giving up opening day to be a part of that.
Besides, there is plenty of time to hunt and so little time to spend with your children!!!
