.357/.38 Turkey loads
« on: October 31, 2010, 09:56:22 AM »
Hey everyone,

I got a new H&R single shot in .357 and would like to hunt Turkey with it on Tuesday. I was thinking some 148gr wadcutters would be good. Anyone have any experience with this? Any other suggestions?

I wish we could hunt turkeys with a rifle here in NY. I can't ever get one close enough to shoot with a shotgun. :(
With the 357 I'd use a bullet that'll just poke a hole through 'em without expanding... or shoot 'em in the head.
Personally I'd use a 22 Hornet with FMJ and shoot 'em through the vitals.

I'd use it with .38 specials and a cheap lead round nose or semi wad cutter.  Shooting a turkey at 40 yards or less isn't rocket science......getting him there might be.  I've got buddies in Florida that shoot them with cap and ball revolvers.

I just sighted in my S&W 586 with Remington 38 special 158 lead round nose. Thats what Im using this year for turkey. I think 38s will do just fine.
