« on: October 23, 2010, 03:05:34 AM »
looking for something economical for the grandkids to practice and sight in with.
then they can move up to what i perfer to use.... and adjust accordingly

i have seen the winchester slugs around $4 a box
and the federal sabots bout the same price.

yall have any luck with these ?
or any other slugs that won't break the bank for practice ?

i'm a brenneke fan and the availability is getting slim, and the price is going up  :o
2 months ago i bought 10 boxes for $3.38 ea. now there $5.09 ea, at the only place i can find them.

thats why i'm look'n for something for the kids to practice with.

thanks  ;D

the cheep remington sluggers do shoot pretty good thru my 20 ga. mossy and it is a rifled barrel
i or we  used them to get the scope close then went to the ten doller a box hornedays
the sluggers were only about 3-4 in. off from the sabots so in shooting 5-6 boxes of the sluggers was a big savings for us.  i did see some lead fouling in the rifling tho.a good copper brush and solvent made quick work of removing it  good luck and happy shooting

John,

Do you cast?  A single lead ball can be very cheap for practice.

My brother wanted a heavy bear defense round, so we've been devoloping a round using three .605 hard balls out of a 20 gauge brass case.  We're up to 900 fps so far and he's loving it!  The balls weigh just about 300 grains each.

John,

When we're done I'll do a full report here.  Couple of days ago we tested and our high loads ran about 925 fps (for the three ball load).  Our goal is 1100 to 1200 fps.
