Powders for the 350 Rem. Mag.

What's everyone like in thier 350 mag.? Lately,I've been seeing that some people are likeing TAC. Never tried this stuff, but I think I may. Usually use RL15 or 4320.

My 673 Remington and the Son inlaw's both thrive on IMR 4895 under a speer 220 fp . Both will cloverleaf 3 at 100yds .

I've used IMR 4320 with the Speer 220-gr bullet. Decent velocity & accuracy with this combination. I have tried TAC with the Barnes 200 gr TSX. Initial results look promising with MV of 2,880 fps (not a max load according to Barnes #4 Manual) and 3-shot 100-yard groups of 1.5". I have yet to play with the bullet seating depth to see if I can get better accuracy but I'm willing to bet that accuracy can be improved.

Just chony'd my 350 this morning. Got 2700 with 61 grs. of 4320 ,200 gr. Core Lokts. Looking to try some TAC, as soon as I can find some.
2880 FPS - wow!

Be advised that I used Federal LR Magnum Match primers in my load development, using TAC and the Barnes 200 gr TSX. I did so despite the Barnes Manual listing Federal regular LR Match primers. Old habits die hard. TAC is a ball powder and the load I used (though under the manual's maximum charge weight) was over 60 grains. So, I used the Federal LR Match Mag primers. I began with the starting load of TAC as listed in the Barnes Manual and used a chronograph to monitor MV. According to the latest Barnes Manual (#4), the max load listed achieved a MV of around 2,940 fps. However, with the COL listed in the manual I achieved the best initial accuracy with the MV averaging 2,880 fps. I'd have to consult my notes but I believe this MV was achieved at 1 or 2 grains below the max charge of TAC in my rifle (Ruger SS MK II with 22" barrel). It does appear to me that with at least the Barnes 200 gr TSX, TAC is well suited for this caliber and bullet.

i also need to add that I could not find TAC locally. I had to order through a catalog (Midway) and had to pay the HAZMAT fee.

Thanks - Still looking for the TAC. Question - Do You think that there is a significant differance in velocity with TAC as opposed to RL15 or 4320?

I've never used RL15, so I can't really answer that question. From what I've read, it appears that 35 Whelen users generally like it for max velocity and accuracy. Regarding IMR4320, I've only used it with the Speer 220 gr bullet in my 350 rem Mag. In Speer's latest manual, it only lists a bit over 2,600 fps for the max load with this bullet. So, I'm not sure you could get up to almost 2,900 fps with the Barnes 200 TSX, though once again I've never tried. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Perhaps someone with much more reloading experience than me will chime in. I'm not what you'd call an adventureous type, when it comes to reloading. I stick only to Reloading Manual loads.

I have a chance to buy a 350 rem for $150 good friend in need of money and I have no experience with this round is everyone satisfied with its performance an game animals and does it shoot as flat as 338 mag? If I buy it I'm giving him the option to buy it back if he gets back on his feet.

not as flat shooting as a 338 but for a 150 bucks id run not walk over to your freinds house and get it before he changes his mind. I cant picture a 350mag that isnt worth three times that ammount.

I know this is an older topic. But have very good results with rel-17 in the 350. Shooting an encore. Sierra 225's and nosler accubonds.
