Need your help. Found what looks to be a turkey gun
« on: October 06, 2010, 05:37:31 AM »
Need your help. Found what looks to be a turkey gun at a local pawn shop. I googled and looked on the web and found nothing like it or info leading anywhere. I called H&R 1871 and they dated it around 1993 but they were stumped (thinking it may have been a special run). So I’m turning to you guys and here is a brief description. It is stamped pardner, sb1, 3-1/2, screw in choke, survivor style forend, synthetic stock, smooth bore, fixed iron sights and here is the kicker it is totally camo’ed. Only the choke tube is not camo’ed and it’s an earlier style camo, not the newer mossy oak type. It has a 22 or 24 inch barrel. What's throwing me are the iron sights. I couldn't find any turkey guns with them. Any information will be appreciated and H&R 1871 even suggested I ask you guys. It will most likely end up in my H&R line-up. Thanks  ???

It doesn't have to be a factory offering, there are hundreds of custom H&Rs posted here, stocks are interchangeable and have been offered in synthetic as well as camo for years, there are many sources of commercial camo applications available, sights too, as MSP suggested, better grab it cheap if you can.  ;)

Went back yesterday to see if the shotgun was still there and it was :). I had done some research about the choke tubes and found a winchoke should fit. Well it didn't, the threads wouldn't even pass the end of the barrel :(. Not owning a browning, does someone know if the invector choke major thread dia is smaller than winchoke or mossberg major thread dia. Called the H&R 1871 help desk and was told they use a browning invector style choke tube. It sure would be more versatile if I could change the choke tubes.
thanks for any infor

mossberg 500 choke tubes will work if its factory if some one had it threaded you will probably just have to keep trying diffrent choke tubes until you find the right one

Sounds like it might be truchoke.  Unscrew the choke in it and count the threads.  Should be 44 per inch for a truchoke.
