Need help - is this a malfunction?
« on: November 03, 2010, 03:32:20 PM »
Hi there-

I bought an Encore with a 12" barrel earlier this year from a dealer.  It's chambered in 44mag, has a burris scope base, and a 2-7x TC scope on it.  The gun doesn't have a scratch on it, and shows limited/no use.

I finally took it to the range today to sight it in for our firearms deer season, and things were going pretty well until about 25 rounds in.  The breech would open at the end of a shot.  It did not do it every time, but it did start to do it about every 3 rounds or so.

I was shooting off of a crude rest, but the trigger guard was no where near contacting the rest.  I tried to replicate what was happening without a round chambered, and I believe I got it to open by pulling the trigger to the rear (riding the hammer down and holding it, the action would open).  I checked my Encore muzzle loader, and could not get the breech to open by squeezing the trigger...

I'm thinking that this isn't normal.  Can someone help me understand what I need to do?  Is this something that I should expect TC to fix if this is indeed a malfunction?  Or is there something that I can do to keep this from happening?

BTW - the pistol fired great.  It really ate up the 240 grain JHP Hornady rounds.  And then I fired some 240 grain Remingtons, and I had rounds touching at 50 yards.  The 225 grain Hornady Leverevolution did not group as well as either of the other two types of ammo I fired.

Thanks for your help!

Call SSK Industries,  advertised here,  and order 2 extra stong locking bolt springs.  You should get them in 2 -3 days and install one and keep the other as a spare.  That should take care of it unless someone ground on the locking bolt.
