Custom CZ24/47
« on: October 04, 2010, 07:18:08 AM »
;D I fell in and came out smelling like a rose. By that I mean I picked up a custom 24/47 for $ 279.. with a Burris Fullfield II 3x9 in 30-06. 22 inch tube Timney trigger and weighs 8 1/2 scoped. It has the military stock worked to a straight stock sporter with a sims pad. Took it to the range Saturday and was more than surprised. Took 10 shot to walk it to the center and 2 inches high. The next 5 shots went into 5/8 of an inch at 100 yards. the last 3 went in the same hole at 3/8 of an inch. Recoil was pronounced but straight back zero face slap. Super rifle for a great price. This was done with Federal Power Shok ammo. Now you know why I sais I came out smelling like a rose. :D :D :D  Jess

J.C Higgens I think was a brand name used by sears. They used a few varieties of actions on their rifles. 98 FN mauser and I think sako actions as well. Good value for the money and are well worth the money. I can assure you that the stock you describe as a military stock is not the origional. Maybe the origional got damaged and rather than seek out another, the military stock was used. From your accuracy report you did well with your purchase. Choosing the '06 is never a mistake as many here will tell you. Frank

I do not think that Sears ever sold any sporterized military rifles. If the marking you see are on the barrel, I think what you probably have is a rifle that was sporterized using a take-off Sears barrel, maybe ( probably ) from an FN that they sold under their J.C. Higgens name. Is it labeled a Model 51 ( I think that is what they called it ). Even at that, I think, maybe, that Sears abouth the actions from FN, then used High-Standard barrels, so if that is the case, then your barrel was made by High-Standard. Sears also sold Husqvarnas with their house name, along with lots of other variations, especially in .22 rimfire.

Sold the rifle yesterday the blasted gun kicked like a mule, not only that it was a gun with mismatched parts 24/47 action, JC Higgins barrel and awful stock. Never had a scope hit me until this thing, could put brake or new stock but can get a new rifle for that cost. so i picked up a Vanguard Sporter instead and put the Burris scope on it.Jess
