standard SKS sights?

What does each number on the sight indicate? Is it 1 for 100 yards, 2 for 200 yards and so on?
Go 214th!!

Pretty sure it is 100's of meters rather than yards.

Yep!  The SKS sights are marked off in meters, not yards but those sights are throwbacks to much earlier times when bolt actions were used with those ladder sights or elevator sights, er whatever they are called, before machineguns were used and those sights were used for volley fire at long ranges.  You rarely see a SKS or AK (they both have the same set of rear sights) used much beyond 200m due to both the accuracy (or lack of) of the combination of rifles and ammo.  If you have a good shooter you should be able to dong the gong - a 12" circle at 200yd.  You may note the US military rifles use a peep mounted rear sight with only short range (-300m) and long range +300m) aperatures.
