Looks like it will be a good deer season
« on: September 25, 2010, 05:01:30 PM »
I have been watching a group of 6 bucks all summer. 5 of them are 8 pointers and one is a 6. There is another buck, much bigger, with a narrow but very tall rack. We have perfect conditions for antlers, a record mast crop last year, and a wet spring. I set up a stand near a beaver dam today as water is scarce. I hope to fill my tag early in the archers season and go small game hunting. You Gotta believe. Shotgunner

My son shot a deer with his bow that was standing next to the tall fellow. This one was bigger, heavier and had more mass. I have since jumped another that could have been it's twin. We have taken 4 deer, the first Saturday was an odd one, and we did not do as much as expected. This weather should keep them moving. Shotgunner

The season is over and no deer yet.  I still have the flintlock season so there is still hope.  The group that I hunt with got several deer, but overall the amount of deer seen was down from last year.  We hunt public ground, so I don't know how other hunters did on the leases.

Yes, the season has ended. There are 5 of us who hunt in the family and we ended up with my son shooting that big one, my daughter got a 7 point buck, and a friend taking an 8 point buck and a doe. My wife and I each killed a doe. My wife had a shot at a small 8 point and missed it. We do not lease any land. I own a small farm and we hunt on land the neighbors allow us to. There are less deer then there were a few years back, which was the intent of the changes in the rules. There are also a lot more bigger bucks. Many people will need to change the way they hunt to take these older deer. I think the season should be moved to include the rut. I also think it is time to end the early in-line season. Shotgunner

the archery hunters would have afit about moving the season to hunt the rut . did not see 1 deer the entire 2 weeks hunted 3 different state gamelands .  thanks to pa game commission for their mismanagement of the deer herd

The state was looking to reduce the deer heard, and they did. They also produced more big bucks. Those bucks are not stupid and people need to change they way they hunt. Everyone is up in a tree looking down and the deer are all bedded during the day. There are very few drives any more. We are going to have to move the deer if we want to see them. Would the archery hunters mind if their season was a week later, and the rut had started? I think not. Shotgunner
