JMB's design of the original Had a flat mainspring--NO grip safety---nor guide rod.
When you discuss changes---wheather it be a Colt or a Norinco--is not to make it work.
In a Colt--from day one--there were better internals available. It did not mean the old Colt Commercial would not function.
Common changes--parts changes--I have done to mine are ejectors, FP, Springs, mag release, thumb safety, beavertail and grip safety + some other mudane things like the lock-up system and all parts fitted by deburring and melding--new Heinie slantpro sights, barrel bushing--slide to frame fitting--porting lowered and flared--different ignition system--I do not care for flat mainsprings .
I have a high grip and in speed shooting I sometimes do not depress the grip safety--I have the grip safety practically made to not be a functional piece ( I would like it pinned, but no Smith worth his salt will do it )--I like 3# triggers and Short GI triggers.
There are some other things also as need by the parts that come on the build gun.
I want the weapon to be a weapon and as bulletproof as possible.
Nothing here that is cosmetic--though these changes do change the cosmetic appearance of the weapon.
