Freedom Arms 45 Colt model 97

Veral what is your best recommendation for this little 5 shooter. I live in S. Texas and our Whitetail are not very big, I would figure about the biggest critter I would be shooting would be a 300 lb or so Hog. Truth be told, I am more of a rock buster than anything else. Thanks!

2 dogs, if I am not mistaken, the overall cartridge length that the 97 can tolerate is a little shorter than normal.  Just in case Veral is not familiar with this, maybe you should give him the maximum OAL you can use.

Depending on whether you are enraptured with long range rock busting or not makes a difference in my recommendation.  Also amount of recoil you want to deal with.  For nice recoil levels and ranges to some over 100 yards, get a 260 gr WFN and drive it at 1000 to 1200 fps.  The higher end when you are chasing game, as it kills like a lightening bolt at that speed.  If long range is more your thing, get a 300 up to 430 gr LFN, in pb if you want to keep power down a bit or gc if you want to firewall it.

Give me the length from case mouth to end of cylinder if you order a mold and I'll cut the crimp at that length less a little to prevent cylinder tie up should a bullet slip a little from recoil.
