7TCU finally connects !!
« on: December 09, 2003, 01:50:30 PM »
:-D  Finally on Friday morning here in Kansas, I got a nice 8 pt. with a 7 tcu. The wind was blowing out of the north about  enough to blow the turkeys off of roost. Anway a deer was coming at around 125yds. Cocked the T/C back, and let it rip>>>. Missed the buck,it came in closer, was confused.at about 75 yds. stopped broadsided. This time standing up in my ladder stand, and hanging on to the tree, to steady myself, fired off another one, hit right behind the left shoulder, and took off agian. I thought I had miss? Got down, couldn't find neary a drop of blood. Went back to my stand, and sat down thinking about it. After 30 mins. I couldn't stand it, I knew I couldn't of missed. So down the creek bottoms I went, and about 200 yards laid this big OLD 8 pt. Beat up from fighting, with a hole in the left side. If I can figure out how to post a pic, I will. Rick.. :-D

Understand the frustration of looking for that rascal.

My first with a TC was 20+ years ago with a 35 Remington.  I knew he was hard hit because he rolled uo on two wheels before hauling butt.  There was blood all about where he was when shot.  Funny thing, no blood trail.

An hour or two later I found him at the bottom of a dry creek bed.  The creek bed was about six feet wide and five feet deep.  Not more than 40 yards from my stand.

Congrats Rick, and good for you on not giving up on the shot.  Lots of hunters would have not seen a blood trail and said "oh well I missed".  I took two deer this year with my Contender, one a spike buck at 30 yds with a 300 Whisper and a button buck at about the same distance with a 357 Max.  No blood trail to speak of with either deer, but both were center punched through the chest and both very dead when I got to them.
