Rossi '92 with too much headspace?

Is there anything that can be done to correct an excessive headspace problem in a Rossi '92?  It's chambered in .357 and has a 24" octagon-to-round barrel.

Any chance of sending it in for repair? If not, maybe now is the time to contemplate a new barrel. Or just shoot it with light loads. I had one that would break cases in half with full 357 loads but did just fine with poofter 38 level loads, more than enough for 100M shooting.

Have you ever heard of a Rossi with an octagon to round barrel?  I never have.  (well except for the one I own)

I bought it used and I suspect that it was "slicked up" by a previous CAS shooter.  The action is noticeably smoother than my other Rossi.  Anyway an octagon to round might be tough to replace.

The barrel could be set back slightly by a gunsmith to correct the issue, but I would question why the excessive headspace developed in the first place - Hot loads, stretched action?

I've got a Rossi 92 with a 24" octagon barrel.  I don't remember ever seeing one octagon to round though...    I'd probably buy it if I did!

Yes.  That's part of why I pointed out the octagon-to-round profile.  It was only after I bought it that I began to suspect that this may have been a CAS gun that was slicked up.  The blueing and polish on it is better than any stock Rossi I've seen.  I've already noted the action seems smooth. 

I'm wondering if the headspace "problem" could be a result of some gunsmithing work.  It feeds both .357 and .38s reliably.  And I have heard in other discussions that sloppy tolerances improve reliability (military arms intended for work under adverse conditions).  So I thought maaaybeee some "smithy" thought a CAS gun should feed reliably - accuracy be darned. 

Other than that - I'll shoot max loads but not "hot loads" per se.  And the only "pressure signs" have been ones that are also indicators of too much headspace.
