what was the standard load in the civil war - 60grs black powder and a 560ish gr minnie,   and they were killing at hundreds of meters, shooting thru multiple people at once.   just wondering why everyone shots such large "magnum" powder loads - i am not trying to insult or cause a problem   i am truly just wanting to learn something.   i use 75 gr of loose 777 in both .50 & .58 rifles with a 385 gr lead minnie in the 50 and a 535 grs minnie in the 58.    am i wrong?  or am i missing something?
looking for ejectors - 308, 8mm, 35 rem, 25-20, 32-20, 357 mag, 45LC

I shoot larger amounts of loose powder because it is very accurate in my guns.
