.243 firing pin issue
« on: November 11, 2010, 08:43:31 AM »
well first time to the range with the .243 handi that has been back to H&R 3 times for issues with fit of this extra barrel. At the range today and with factory winchester x 100 grain ammo I got 3 seperate 3 shot group at 3/4 inch. Might make me think twice about even trying to reload for it. The issue I had was the 3 out of the 20 rounds didnt fire upon being struck. I pulled the hammer back a second time and they fired. I will be one angry man if that happens with a deer in the crooshairs. Any suggestions what I should be looking for that could direct to to the problem. One note this ammo was left outside in a dry box last week but was never wet but it was humid and temp was ranging from 28 to 55 outside.

Agter looking at the last similar post as suggested it talked about the trigger pull. I had them do a trigger job while the barrel was being fit. I will be at the range again tmorrow hope it was the ammo or I quess 4 times back to H&R will hopefully be the charm.

Weak hammer springs are a known issue, but read the Handi Basics 101 sticky on trigger pull, make sure you're not part of the problem by not fully pulling the trigger all the way to the rear, specially with a lighter trigger.  ;)

well I talked to technical and they are sending me a RA label to send it back. As was said it could have something to due with them making my trigger lighter the last time it was sent in. The trigger pull is much better so I hope when I get it back it is the same. 3 weeks till pa gun season and I wanted to use this gun as it is shooting great.

Did you ask them about the transfer bar upgrade? That's what they did to my .308 after fail-to-fire issues, and it didn't cost anything. I've had zero misfires, and the trigger feels really nice. Also I pay no attention to whether the trigger is pulled firmly and completely rearward. Much more pleasant to shoot!
