Pair of Handis step up again
« on: November 13, 2010, 09:40:02 PM »
Today was the opening day of rifle season here and as always, the Handis ruled the roost.
I checked the zero on them last week.
One shot each and right where they were last year.
My 45-70 was the first to draw blood with a nice 40 yd head shot on a mature doe about 10:30.
This evening about 4:00 the youngest son said he would like to go out.
Not much time but lets go.
Was out less than 10 minutes when his/ my old 7x57 done it's job on a young doe at about 65 yds, bang flop.
He is 8 for 8, one shot kills, all bang flops!
Maybe one of these days I will get to teach him about tracking.  :D
I told him that he gets to eat for another year.
He really enjoys doing his part helping fill the freezer.
Sorry, but I forgot the camera, so no pics this time.
Plenty of time though.
We have open season here straight through the first week of January with two a day bag limit.

Congratulations!!!
All this talk of shots taken and deer hanging has me seriously anticipation our Wednesday opener!!!

Yesterday I watched a very nice ten point court a doe in a apple orchard adjacent to the property I hunt. This am coming to work a huge bodied deer crossed infront of me and ran across a golf corse. Small eight point but easily better than a two hundred pound animal.
I'm off all next week so my time will come soon enough. Monday I'm hitting the range one last time and then I'm ready!!  The 454 is getting first hunt this year.

Sorry BB but I forgot the camera this time.
Might get another chance.
Surprisingly the 300HP when straight through before it had time to open much so the exit wound wasn't much larger then the entry hole.
I was expecting a real mess, wasn't there.

Frank, you're doing great, I hope you never teach your son to track.  I hope he never has a need to know.  At eight for eight, I think he's got me beat.

Way to go LT!  Limit of 2 a day ??? must have a mess of em runnin around where you are.  I got a bunch of 7mm's around here but let my 7X57's go. :-[  Don't know why, they got me started with the 7mm's and done as good a job as any of em.  Gonna have to find another to bring home and adopt into the family.  Sure would be nice to find a Handi barrel in that chambering. 8)  DP
