I talked to him yesterday and asked for the serial number, he was suppose to send it to me in an email today, so far I haven't heard anything. he didn't sound too hip when it came to Handi-Rifles from what I could gather in our conversation.

I agree 100%

Thanks, Dinny

I got an answer back on my querry the other day.  It is to laugh....

"im return your email if you want to kno more about this gun please feel free to contact me 423-293-0887 this is a rare gun feel free to call methank you"

If he told Dinny the truth and he got soaked for $800, I can understand his wanting to get that out of it.  On the other hand, maybe it will be a lesson to him to do some research before plunking down his money!

Sad that he got taken, though.

yep, that's the same message he sent me  ;D

I too hate to see someone get burned on a deal. I traded for a beautiful Savage 110 at a gun show and of course you can't work the action because of the ty-wrap, got it home and found it wouldn't stay cocked when the bolt was closed. someone had had it apart and but it back together wrong, I did it right and now it is perfect. But still no fun to get taken...

I see this frequently on 'Antiqes Roadshow' too.
Yeah, 'Its worth $1000 because the guy I bought it from assured me it is'!
And now its out in the woods getting even more used and thus worth less.

Looks like someone convinced him it's a rare rife... IF he is on the level and got taken.  A couple of things come to mind.  We all know it's Buyer Beware out there, but it's still a shame when there are sellers out there taking advantage of folks.

I just called him back to learn more about where he got it and to see if I could help him get his money back. He doesn't want my advice and, quite frankly, is tired of hearing it's only worth $200. Now I'm really starting to feel for him. That must be a terrible feeling to get taken for that much. Now I know how Bernie Madoff's victims felt. >:(

Thanks, Dinny

So, he is really feeling like a sucker and knows what its like, and
he's not only willing, but anxious, to put somebody else through that?.............
I hope that isnt the case, but if it is, he deserves being stuck with it at that price.....forever.

I feel for the poor bugger, certainly sounds like he got rorted. I feel much the same way when I walk into a Gunshop and look at the Handi rifles, they are fair dinkum $500 here in Australia and a Buffalo Classic does run $800

Its an expensive lesson, but I agree,I have little sympathy if hes trying to take someone else.

Looks like someone convinced him it's a rare rife...

But it is a rare rifle. How many other $ 800 Handi Rifles are there? Where do I bid?

I'd go $250-maybe $300 on a nice Model 157, they're pretty nice, but not worth that much, the case color frame appears to have been blued and the low hammer replaced with a late style hammer.   ::)

Here' a pic of a nice M157, not mine btw.

I had asked him for the first four digits of the serial number and he finally sent them. they are HY25XXXX. so it looks like it is an early 2008 model. just an ordinary H&R 357mag handi-rifle :(
