Thats the way they were made & shipped. Most do not have the original ramrod, they are lost or misplaced.

Why does it have a ram rod?

I was wondering the same thing. So basically it is a center fire rifle made to look like a black powder rifle?

it probably does have a cleaning jag on it, in some places 45-70 is very popular for black powder loads

Years back I had one in .44Mag; the rod was short, one tube within the other and you extended it fully and it internally screwed together to make a full length. There was a ribbed jag on one end and more of a button tip on the other, if I remember right. It was , well, handi, if you wanted to swab out the bore in the field, and although I never had it happen, pop out a sticky case after firing if the ejector didnt do it.
All in all a classy looking piece and mine was accurate and fun. I should have kept it (WHAT was I thinkin').

If you havent added the BB, try it, and maybe back off the load 'just a tad'?
Otherwise, get a small diameter piece of brass rod that just fits into your bore and will slide down, about 4-6" should be OK (a length that you can pocket easily and always have with you when out & about. Keep it in a baggy or a length of plastic tubing with caps to keep it clean. When you have a sticky case, keep the breech open and drop the rod down with you hand cupped behind the brass, it should pop out, if not, lower the muzzle, slide the rod back to top and try again. Beats trying to pry a case ot with a pocket knife.
For bigger bore rifles, carry a bullet the next caliber smaller and as heavy as you can get. This can be dropped in the same way and is, well, handi.

I need one on my Hornet so i can eject the invariable stuck cases ! ( Ya,I know, I've read all the Handi basics )

The Handi Basics just explains what causes FTEs, the FAQs has a bunch of options to help besides the old drop something down the barrel trick which may or may not work and has one inherent and dangerous drawback, one member here used that trick regularly on his 223 Handi, the last time he did it, somehow he apparently left the brass rod in the barrel and reloaded and fired the rifle, luckily all it did was blow the trigger guard out of the frame, he wasn't hurt seriously thankfully and he hasn't seen the brass rod since! ::) So it's not the best option.  ;)

Fred's manual extractor notch works well if the ejector tune doesn't work, but the best option is to convert it to a factory extractor, all of which are in the FAQs.  ;)

Quote
EJECTOR TUNE
Ejector function can be improved by flat honing the ejector on all contact surfaces and polishing th ejector housing with a piece of 600 wet/dry wrapped around a piece of steel. Then put a BB ahead of the spring before installing the spring to give it a little more tension. Lube with a dry lube like Hornady One Shot or Elmer's Slide-All. To get the ejector reinstalled with the BB behind the spring, put it all together then hold the barrel, vertical muzzle up, on a hard surface, push down on the barrel to push the ejector into position, then insert a punch thru the pin way as a slave pin to align things, knock the roll pin in from the opposite side as it pushes the punch back out.

Thanks. I think I'll convert to the factory extractor. Chasing brass isn't nearly as much fun as it's cracked up to be!
