.410 brings home some squirrels

i did a bit of squirrel hunting before firearm deer season opens . got a couple with some winchester 3" #6 game loads . they are soaking in the fridge in some salt water i will cook one Friday and freeze the bigger one .

Excellent, brings back fond memories of  when I was a boy hunting on my grandparents farm, we would start the mornings busting pheasants and about 10 a.m. we would hit the groves for squirrels and rabbit,  dress them out, soak them in salt water then grandma would fry them up with homemade noodles and taters, just talking about it  making me hungry!!! Enjoy

yup they are fox squirrels . We have fox red and black were I hunt . The smaller one was a great meal . Cooked it in the crock pot for about four hours with some mushrom soup and vegies .

a .410 nef imo is the best squirrel and bunny gun mony can buy ,ecept for a 22/410 o/u .

We have mostly greys here and if you plan on making a stew you better have 3 or 4.

I spent 4 great years in Michigan.  Never saw a fox squirrel until then.  I was amazed.  They must be twice the size of the grays I was used to.

great photo Matthew, and a BIG squirrel. As other have said, those are much bigger than the gray squirrels we have around here as well (New England). It's almost as big as the squirrel in shaners avatar. The straight stock does looks fine on your .410 buddy, that's a great, and a great looking, squirrel gun. Did your sister ever get one?....<><....:)

thanks Andy , that shoty carries so good its like it was built for me to carry in the squirrel woods :) . my sister has not bought one yet , we have been busy geting ready for deer season which starts on Monday .

yup that squirrel was so big that i had to cut it up and put it in two separate freezer bags .

I bought a 410 for squirrel hunting. If my nephew would let me use it I might actually shoot one with it. :-\
He's taken quite a few grays and reds with it so apparently it does the trick. :D
