MOA 22Hornet
« on: August 31, 2011, 12:31:00 PM »
Just received my MOA in 22Hornet. It will be a field gun,  mostly spring Gobbler and some varmit hunting. May even use it for tree rats late fall when their on the ground good.

Nice.  I bet that gun will dispel the myth of "The innaccurate 22 Hornet"..

Maybe but, here in Illinois it's illegal to shoot any squirrels on the ground and very dangerous.
I agree that's a very nice looking handgun and I'll bet accurate as all get out.

In WV. its not illegal. And people have done it for years and as far as I know no ones been hurt or killed because of it. Most cases here you will be shooting with mountains and hills for back stops. With any shooting while hunting one does need to have the sense to make sure of his back stop. I cant see in my location where this would be anymore dangerous than shooting deer, turkey, rabbit, or any other ground dwelling game which are all legal to take with a pistol in WV. I do not know what the terrain is like in Illinois so there it may be very dangerous!

I agree...it looks to me like shooting up in a tree would be more dangerous.  But then again, if you shoot at a squirrel, turkey with that MOA you ain't gonna miss anyway so you'll stop that bullet.  ;D

Great looking gun Dave.  Don't you have another one?  Is this another receiver and barrel or did you get a barrel only?  You must be really liking those MOA's!  I've never even seen one in person..but I am intrigued by them!

Hey Darrel, Yes I did buy another complete MOA. I do also have one in 30-30IMP., it being the first I'd seen or held.  I'd rather have the complete gun than change barrels. You need to give one a try, they are pretty neat guns! Someday I hope to have one more MOA in something 6.5Cal. Thinking about a 6.5X284Win. I hope next week to get a scope and rings ordered for the MOA Hornet. May even make a new wood set for this one.

Heres a pic of the 30-30IMP with a wood set I made for it.

That is beautiful Dave!  How do you shoot the MOA?  Do you just pull the hammer back and fire it?  It seems I recall that you have to do something else in order for it to fire?

I love lever action rifles....might need a lever handgun!  I'm thinking a .308 Win would be about perfect for my "needs"!

Darrell

Loading and firing is pretty simple. The safety is actually a transfer block with the safety located on the right side in easy reach of the thumb.

To load you have the safety on, cock the hammer, open the lever and drop your round in.

After loading with the safety still on you can lower the hammer and if it were to slip the MOA would not fire.

In this picture you can see the back of the fireing pin with the trandferr bar in the safe position.

To fire a round you cock the hammer and move the selector to fire position. The transfer bar will move up over the fireing pin. At this point the gun is hot.

In this picture you can see the transfer bar down. In this position you can unload the gun or lower the hammer safely over a live round.

And talk about a trigger, these things are sweet.

Your welcome! Come by sometime and we will shoot them! Now if I could get my stock and finish my Savage Bolt build I would be happy!

That's a good looking piece, don't guess I've ever seen one before. I got a couple of off topic questions for you. What part of the state are you from? I'm down south in the town of Hinton. Also what you building on that Savage action, I just finished one In .223 AI, still working up loads for it. Good to see another West Virginia boy on here.

Good looking gun.  I have an old G2 Contender in 22 Hornet, she has been a good one providing lots of fun shooting and an ocassional piece of meat for the pot.  I hope you enjoy yours as much as I have enjoyed the ole Contender.

I'm at a little place call Alum Creek just south of Charleston. I was in your back yard last Saturday fishing the New from my kayak. Smallmouths were biting pretty good. Hope to do it again next Saturday.

I'm using a Savage Dual port action to build a 6MM BR. Have it ready except for the stock. PDC Custom is making it.
