My first misfire today....
« on: November 28, 2010, 10:48:39 AM »
Since I am going to use my .35 REm on my next hunt I wanted to fire a couple rounds off today. My first Hornady LR bullet did not go off,the primer was dented.Have you guys ever had these LR's do this before?I thought something had happened to my favorite hunting tool.I changed barrell to my 7-30 Waters and it fired fine so that ruled out the trigger mechanism.I tried the .35 once more and the rest of my shots all fired fine. This is the first of this brand I had ever do that.I am shooting around 45 yds in the back yard and here is my group. This is just resting the forearm on my Caldwell rest.I quess this is a bit high.Seems like everytime I shoot at live animals I shoot low. What is the best place to have your group @ 50 yds?I did bring the scope a couple more clicks down. The top three were my last shots...

Thanks

I have never heard of old rounds changing point of impact (they generally go boom or not), so if I were you I would look elsewhere.  Same brand ammo, bullet weight, etc.......?  Dunno.  This is usually where I start questioning my aim or hold.  Shoot for a group, one shot is not enough to tell you anything.

Curtis i agree.I should shoot a 3 shot group to be sure makes better sense.I was running out of light and the wife and the puppies don't really understand the shooting so much.I love to fire off rounds, although I shoot only 20 yds from the house..Kinda livens up the place if you ask me.lol..My biggest concern was the bullets not firing, espicially a good name brand.I quess if just happens.I took off my carlson extension and try that to see if that was the problem. Thanks for the reply.

I'm not real familiar with the 35 rem round, but it seems to be the most notorious caliber for misfires from what I've read.  Not sure if it is a headspace issue or what.

Twohats-
I saw from the picture of your 444 you are using a hammer extension, I have heard of those causing misfires if  you have a weak spring.

I first thought about that as well(hammer spring).I even tried with out it and the same bullets would not fire.I tried my 7-30 Waters and no problem firing at all with the Carlson extension.I have recently traded the .35 and after doing more research, this is a common occurance with the .35 and factory ammo.I really liked that round too.If I ever reload I will get one back for sure. Thanks
