7x57 col length ?
« on: November 18, 2010, 01:06:01 PM »
Does any one have a factory loaded 7x57 shell that you could give me the overall loaded round length in looking at all my reloading books I come up with lengths that will not chamber. Lee calls for a 3.065 but wont chamber in my MGM barrel and will not chamber in my Ruger number 1. One member told me how to check and I did that and The MGM chamber is 3.000 so would need to back off at least 10 thousand The Ruger chamber is 3.035 and wont chamber a 3.065 same bullet on both 120 grn seirra so I am wondering if that is a misprint in the lee book?

My Lyman 49th lists a

COL of 2.945" for a 120g jacketed SPT and a Max COL of 3.037" with the 162g jacketed BTSP

With an Ave. COL of 3.000" and a Trim length of 2.225"

stimpy

PS --- My guess on the Lee data is that it came from a factory Mil. Spec. round with its longer bullet but a more tapered Ogive .

There is no magic in book or factory OAL, find what works in your rifle and  use it.
Common sense is an uncommon virtue

So far this is the only round that I have had any problem with but you are right I have found what fits and that is what I have been doing
