A bad opening day for bear
« on: November 20, 2010, 04:16:49 AM »
Today (Sat. 11/20) is the opening day for the PA bear season.  I hunt in central PA on state forest land.  Had a spot picked out, on the edge of a swamp, about 1/2 mile down a forest road that is barred with a gate, and posted with "Road closed to vehicles signs".  Its about an hour before first light, and I figure I'll get in, and let other hunters maybe drive something to me.  I'm walking down this road when a pick up truck with 5 guys in it comes flying down it.  I wave them over, and say "hey man, this road is closed to traffic".  I wont say what the reply was, as this is a family site.  Then they gunned it and sprayed me with dirt and mud.  OK.  I walk down to my intended stand, and get comfortable.  About 30 minutes later, a guy comes in, from the direction the truck went, and sits down about 50 feet from me.  I know he see's me.  We are wearing orange.  I put my hands up in a "what are you doing" sign, and he gives me the finger.  OK.  Figure I better leave before I loose my temper.  Walk back out to the main road, and find they have used their truck to bust the barricade, and knock down the pole.  Also a pile of breakfast sandwich wrappers and coffee cups that were not there when I hiked in.  Picked up the garbage, went back to my truck, took out an old heavy, rusty chain, and wrapped it around two trees, blocking the entrance to the closed road.  Secured it with a big old pad lock.  I hope they have a cutting torch when they go to leave...... ;D

Cant stand slob hunters.

I'm usually not one for ratting people out, BUT!!!  I'd called the Game Commission and let them handle it. Idiots like those jerks ruin it for everyone. Nice touch with the logging chain though!!! Sert01

I know how this feels too, I have heard of some hunters letting the air out of all the tires of vehicles like this, simply by cutting the valve stems off the tires.
or putting a 5 pound bag of sugar in their fuel tank.
Then call the game wardens for busting down gates and what not.
Then sometimes I feel some folk just need a good ole fashined beat down for wasting my air they breathe too.

Cool.....would love the see their faces......Years ago, in another life, we had some Super Stars from an oil field company decided to block off an oil field and fire road so they would have exclusive rights to hunt the area.  All others were refused access.  People had been hunting in this area for years.  One group had a deer camp back in this area on private property (with permission of land owner).  Guess folks got upset.  Opening morning they found that epoxy poured into the lock.  If you have seen the oil field locks, they are set up so they cannot be cut with bolt cutters...guess they had to haul a torch out to cut thing off.  Second day, one of the property owners (a retired state senator) made a few calls.  Seems the guy with the deer camp had been using the Senators property for years....with written permission....Gate was never locked again.....
