USH 20 Gauge Problem
« on: November 19, 2010, 04:01:58 AM »
Hey Guys,

I picked up a USH 20 gauge shotgun earlier this week. I had a scope mounted on it and bore sighted and took it out last night to dial it in for opening day. Unfortunately the shells don’t chamber into the gun worth a crap. You really have to snap the gun closed to get it to lock, and the only way to get the spent shell out is to force it out with the cleaning rod. I thought it might have just been the buck hammers I was using until I went back in the house and grabbed the sst’s and had the same problem. Also you can not stick a spent shell back into the chamber once it’s out. I’m not sure if this is normal or not. Can somebody with a working gun let me know if they can stick a spent shell back in the chamber. I called up H&R and they’ll send me a shipping label but they told me to take the scope off, so I’ll have to get it bore sighted again and then take it to the range and redo what I already did.

Now, I’ve seen the instructions on here how to polish the chamber and the ejector parts. I asked the guy at H&R if it would void my warranty. He kind of walked around the question a bit before saying as long as I just polished and didn’t grind on it, it should be fine.  Has anybody tried to fix their mistake unsuccessfully and then had their warranty claim denied?

Thanks,

TF

Take it back to where you bought it and have them send it back. Let the manufacturer fix it. scout4<><

Why take it back to where he bought it? If Remington is going to send him a shipping label it already means they're paying the freight door to door. Let the little brown truck bring it right back when it's done.

I have an USH 20. I have never had a problem like that with mine. I would send back in the little brown truck to remington.

Major bummer! But they (and all the mfr's) gotta be made to 'feel the pain' for poor quality control.
Make sure you ask for the trigger job while they have it (should be free especially for your inconvienence).

gcrank1 you said to ask for trigger job.i have read on this board and others they have had trigger jobs done for having misfires,i have shot my ush 12 about 15 times and have already had 1 misfire which imo is 1 to many, makes you afraid to carry the gun in the woods never knowing when it might happen again.it is one of the best shooting slug gun i have ever shot and would like to keep it if i could feel certain i could get the problem resolved.i do not think it is a shell problem,it looked to defintely be a light hammer strike.my question is do you think this might resolve the problem, thanks

If you havent done so, go right to the FAQs at the forum header and check it out. As I recall this is something that has happened too often with the USHs, yet isnt that hard or expensive to fix on your own.

Yeah i saw the fixes. There is a burr on the ejector which i think is causing some of the problems. But the guy at H&R made it sound like if I messed with the gun they could void the warranty. I'm still wondering if you guys can re-chamber spent shells. Anybody?

I don't think you can chamber a spent shell easily, simply because the crimped end is now opened, making the shell too long for the chamber cut.

Send this gun back! Something is wrong with it. Let Them Fix It. All my shotguns including five Tracker II's chamber a round easily and eject it as well. Did I mention to Send The Gun Back?

Have you tried cleaning the chamber? Give it a good scrubbing with a brass chamber brush and some solvent. The shotguns still have ejectors so it doesn't take much to stick a shell in the chamber.
