Ranch Dog bullets in my handi rifle
« on: November 07, 2010, 02:26:13 PM »
The Ranchdog on- line store  is getting back going again,,,, So I thought I'd try there TL .311 165 gr---- it comes in a 6 hole costom made by Lee....
Anyway since I belive that the handi barrels were made by Marlin  --- and the miold is for a Marlin 30-30 I'd give it a  try..

For the test I loaded 4.8 gr  Unique - and a filler to keep the powder against the primer......in my .308 Handi..I got  a good  50 yard pattern of a inch  --- so I need to load up a bit and try 100 Yards....

They have other bullet molds . 223 thought  45-70... (tumble lube)
And if you want to skip the casting part, I read you can get cast bullets from them..

Hello Dan, I too have purchased a RD mold for my .444 Marlin. I'm waiting for handles, should be here this week I hope.

If you want otherRD bullets to try , check out "The Bull Shop", they have several of the RD molds and sell their bullets, in your choice of alloys and checks and lube.. Nice folks to deal with. I just recieved an order from them for bullet lube and "Bull Plate Lube" for the bullet mold sprue plate...     http://bullshop.gunloads.com/tbs_products.htm
  Good luck ..... "PJ"

I use the RD mold for 360 grain  for my 45/70  Handi         I tried the 425 grain it did not shoot as well in the Handi as it does in my marlin or my Sharps       MY handi does best with the 350 jacketed bullets as well .
I also have another Rd mold  for 357    the 180   it shoots well in my Ruger    I like their molds

I just got my RD mould working a few days ago, cast a handfull of .432/265 bullets. So far I have em gas checked and run thru the sizer die. I'm checking the BHN now and getting ready to load em. My lead is a little on the soft side, I used my junk plinkin lead that has a little of everythin in it....I may bail out of that and drain the pot and put in some known alloy and start over. So far I have fired only 5 rounds in the handi-.444. It's snowing here today so I really should be out there testing my loads, but i'm nice and warm by the stove..... ;)      PJ
