BluDino,
Just to make you feel better, I'll tell you of my big miss. Couple of years ago I lined up an "easy" 40-yard shot from my tree stand on a big buck just emerging into an open hay field. Touched off the shot, and buck nonchalantly looked around for source of the sound, but acted unhurt. But I had heard a crashing sound with the shot, and heard debris raining onto the ground. Sure enough, when I took my eye from the scope, I saw I had shattered a tree branch just 2 feet away. Looking through the scope, I thought I was easily shooting over the top of the branch. Forgot that with high rings there is a big diff between scope line of sight and line of travel for the bullet, especially that close to the muzzle. By the time I had gathered my wits and reloaded my gun, the buck had decided to leave the area, and I didn't get another shot at him.
