Scope ring question.

I have a question concerning putting a TC 2X7 scope on a Encore pistol. The barrel is 480 ruger and I shoot whitetail deer with it. It has a Bushnell red & green dot sight on it now. I used the rings that came with the sight and have had problems with this sight sliding in the rings due to recoil. Looking for advice on mount and rings for the 2X7 scope. Do I need to go with a three ring mount or would that be overkill? What calibers have you guys experienced the need for more than two rings? All comments appreciated!

I use nothing but Redfield 3-ring systems on my Contenders.  I suppose they make them for Encores also...

The difference in money is not all that much...

BUT, you must be sure you have enough distance from the front of the turret to the beginning of the bell so the 2 front rings can fit inbetween.  If not, you can use it as a 2-ring system...

I have never had a scope move on me that wasn't negligence on my part (forgot to put the final torque on the rings), but due to other's experiences I recently went to three rings for my 10" 44 Mag Contender and 14" 375 JDJ.  I use a weaver base and three Burris Signature Zee rings.  If I had a scope with enough real estate I could put four rings on there.  I like Burris's Signature rings (Zee for weaver bases and dual dovetail in my two ring mounts) because the plastic insert seems to grip just fine and doesn't leave marks on the scope if you reposition it or move it to another pistol.

I also used the three ring setups after experiencing scope shift with heavy recoiling calibers. (45 COLT, 375WIN and 357Herrett)

I had the biggest problems with my 357 Herrett, it sheared the #6 base screws!!! I re-drilled for #8's and epoxied the base to the barrel THEN used three rings. That puppy never shot better after that!!!  LOL

I use a Leupold dual dovetail mount and rings in my 8" 45-70 that hasn't moved yet.  The recoil is wicked, and after several hundred rounds, the scope hasn't moved yet!

     The bigger(read longer)the scope, the more opportunity for flexing during heavy recoil, which is what kills most scopes, according to JD Jones.  I use as many rings as the barrel of the scope will allow....often 3....sometimes 4.

I never looked at it that way... But guess leverage and all kinda makes sense.

I have broken a couple scopes, (Rifles not pistols) but discounted that to poor quality optics. On my handguns I have Burris and Leupold pistol scopes. I did see a guy bread a Leupold in a half a dozen shots on a hi-power springer air gun! I mostly had was creepage issues on mine.

I even see this problem on my Benelli 22RF target pistol! I now mount the front ring as far forward and the rear as far back. Its been good for two seasons now. So I'm hopping I licked the problem.

where ever I can I put at 3 rings on all my guns even with the weaver base
I like the looks and the extra ring helps grip the scope and keeps it from moving and bending. I have yet to have a scope fai
a high power spring air gun will kill the best scopes very quickly, the type of recoil of the spring is not what the scope is made for
 
I have a lot of the T/C 2.5-7 scopes severl with the lighted crosshairs and I love them, I even have 2 extra of them in my gun room.
