IMR 8208
« on: December 02, 2010, 05:01:00 PM »
I was wondering if any of you people have tried IMR 8208 powder that Hodgdon came out with, yet? I'm curious about it. One of the statements made about it in the Hodgdon manual is that it burns clean, and shows increased accuracy in some rifles. It is more geared towards the target shooters I believe, but heck--what works for them should work for hunters as well, I would think.

Cybin, If you get on the BR there alot of mixed results with the new IMR-8208XBR in the 6ppc.  The orginal IMR-82008 may of been a better powder.

There are several things I can say about IMR 8208 XBR:

1.  It is very clean burning.

2.  It meters better than ANY powder I've used before and I've used a BUNCH of different powders over the years.

3.  It gives me excellent accuracy in a 270 Winchester.

I also tried it in a 204 Ruger with 45 gr. bullets but it didn't do as well as RL-15.  I think it's worth trying a lot of cartridges but it may not turn out to be the best powder for a particular cartridge.

Thanks--from the write ups in the 2010 Hodgdon Manual I sort of thought that it was played up quit a bit more than it should have merit. Clean burning is good--but then so is IMR4895---and IMR 4895 meters well out of my RCBS uniflow measurer, but each rifle has its own preference in what it likes. Thanks again.
