Foster type slug dia.s
« on: November 29, 2010, 11:45:59 AM »
Has anyone cut the Foster type slugs from the currently available loads and mic'ed them for Over All Diamneter?
I did this years ago (like 25) but would be very interested in what they are now in both 12 and 20ga.

I've read that foster type slugs haven't changed much.  They are still of a small enough diameter to squeeze thru a full choke.  They rely on a shuttlecock effect to fly straight.  I've been able to get 2-3" groups at 50 yards with a ~19 cylinder bore H&R.

That principle is straightforward enough; when I mic'ed them so long ago I had a definate improvement in group size as the diameter increased, as fired in my cylinder bore pump. Thats why I would like to know the actual measurement of 'new' ones if someone has done it recently.
